The hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season is over--Thank god for that. I really enjoy all the outings and things to do but sometimes it just wears me out! I was lucky enough to have been cancelled 4 out of 6 shifts in the last 2 weeks. I have spent some much needed quality time at home with the fam.
We spent a great New Year's Eve at Jessica and Jeremy Harpers. They had a shindig at their house--which happens to be less than a block from ours. It is so nice just to walk home after a long night of drinking. Dexter and I decided that we were full time regular drinkers that night. Lets just say Cuervo Silver was a great friend of ours until about 2 am.
Friday we took the kids to watch Uncle Mike race his go-kart at Kemper Arena--Dirtzilla. The kids had a blast. They were on such a sugar high from having nachos, shaved ice and cotton candy. I love taking the kids to watch the races. Growing up I spent every weekend with the family racing. It was such a great thing to do together. Most of the family vacations we went on were traveling around racing. My Mom and Dad actually spent their honeymoon in the 70's in Amarillo, Texas so my dad could race at the midget nationals. Boy, my mom must have really loved my dad for that.
Dexter left Sunday to spend 2 weeks in Louisville, Kentucky. He is working with a friend of ours remodeling 9 rooms at an Extended Stay America Hotel. It was a hard decision for us to make due to the kids and me working nights but thank god our parents are wonderful and stepped up to help us out. It is well worth the money and will help alleviate the financial pressures that I have been facing with being the only income.
O'by the way---Dexter started working for this guy Mike who ownes Earth Creations--it is a landscaping company. Well if you are looking for a landscaper---DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT hire this company. They owe Dexter money and we even had a check bounce from them. Dexter worked really hard for this guy during the many ice and snow storms in December and the guy will not pay him for it. I understand that financially everyone is struggling but come on you have been in the business for 10 years and you are going to write someone a check that you are not good for then completely ignore him and not answer his calls when you still owe him a paycheck. All I have to say is thank god for job security in the healthcare field.
On a more positive note--I am looking forward to what 2009 has in store for us. May all of our dreams come true this year!
